How is swimming in college and high school different?

It depends on the schools (high school and college) you go to. Unless you went to a high school with an insanely intense program, college will mean more hours in the pool and more time in the weight room. Plan on (at a minimum) 8 to 11 swim workouts a week. Most US high school seasons are only about 3 months long. College swim season runs from fall through spring. The ability of the swimmers in college will be ratcheted up a notch from high school. And if you go to division I or II, there will be scholarship swimmers — which will give the sport more the feeling of a job (and sometimes a burden). If you have the chance to swim in college, I encourage you to do it. I did for two years, and I will never regret it.
