The Consultant Team inventoried heritage features in the Planning Area, with particular focus on the urban community, by reviewing the extensive volume of previously completed studies and using definitions from the Ontario Heritage Policy Review (Ministry of Culture and Communications, 1990). Data were obtained from the Seaton Cultural Heritage Resource Assessment, Volumes I and II, July 1994, the Heritage Conservation District Plan of Whitevale and other primary research and field studies conducted in Central Pickering. Furthermore, the Consultant Team consulted previous heritage studies and evaluations (identified by the Ministry of Culture) including: Hough, Stansbury, Woodland, Naylor Dance Limited (1994); individual site-specific archaeological assessments (1989-2002); Dolling (2003); Barn Owl Productions (2003); and, ENVision – The Hough Group, D.R.
