How is the GTP different from a PGCE?

1

Unlike the PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education), the GTP is not a post-graduate qualification. It leads only to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). PGCE students tend to be based at one university or college, and have placements in two or more schools over long blocks. GTP trainees are normally employed by one school where they spend most of their time. They are often released for weekly training sessions at a university or college, and also spend a short spell working in another school to meet the requirements of QTS. Trainees on the GTP programme are treated as employees rather than students for financial purposes – see pay questions.
