How is the impacted wisdom tooth removed?
The removal of impacted wisdom tooth requires a simple operation that is carried out on the dental chair under sedation & local anesthesia. • The gum around the tooth is incised and moved to one side. Some bone around the tooth is then removed. • Often, the tooth is divided into two pieces before it is removed. • The gum is then replaced and stitched. The stitches will be removed one week later. Will there be pain during and after the operation? Injection for local anesthesia will be given before the operation to numb the area. You should not feel any pain during the operation though you may feel or experience some pressure and discomfort. Antibiotics & Painkillers will be prescribed to you after the operation. Slight swelling of the cheek which may last 1-2 days is expected. What to do before the Surgery? Inform the dental surgeon of any existing or past medical conditions and as advised by the dental surgeon get the OPG x-ray and start the pre-medication. What to do after the Surgery
