How is the pre-Computer Science program different from the two-year curricula in Computer Programming?
Pre-Computer Science is a liberal arts curriculum that leads to an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree. Students in this program usually transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue a Bachelors degree in Computer Science. The two-year program leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree; this is considered a terminal degree and is not designed primarily for further study, although some institutions may accept some of the courses for transfer. A two-year AAS degree is intended to prepare students for immediate employment as entry-level programmers. The curriculum of study consists of technical courses with emphasis on a particular hardware platform (mainframe, PC and AS/400). A person with a Bachelors degree receives a broader education in Computer Science and the liberal arts, preparing him or her for a variety of careers (including programming, database administration, systems analysis, computer security, and others) and/or graduate study in Computer Science or
