How is the U.S. economy different from the command economy?

In a command economy the government tells a factory what to make and how much to make and perhaps how much to charge . The government then typically stands behind the factory to bail it out if it loses money. Example would be the Soviet Union Theoretically in the US each firm decides what to make - how much - and what to charge. If it decides wrong it goes out of business. more
