This oil is extracted from the germ of the wheat kernel, which contributes to only 2 percent weight of the kernel. Wheat germ oil extract is called by the botanical name Triticum vulgare, and has a shelf life around 6-8 months, but when mixed with other oils it’s shelf life can be increased. This oil degrades quickly, when exposed to high temperatures, hence should be stored in cool and dark place. The oil is available in two varieties which is the refined and unrefined variety. Wheat germ oil can be used for animals and humans both. Properties of Wheat Germ Oil Wheat germ oil can be pale amber to rich chestnut brown in color. The color of this oil depends upon the variety. Wheat germ oil has a strong and heavy smell, it doesn’t have an attractive smell and can be mixed with essential oils to enhance the scent. Wheat germ nutrition is known for its high levels of antioxidant, hence it’s oil is added to other carrier oils. It is thick in consistency, so it is not usually used as an inde
