How is WiMax different form 3G?

Just to add to what michael48 said, 3G is a technology designed for cell phones, WiMax is designed for mobile computing and (for the moment) requires that a WiMax modem be connected to your computer to get access. For the moment, WiMax doesn’t roam automatically (like 3G) either. What this means is that if you lost connection with a WiMax tower, you’d have to try to reconnect to establish a link with another tower. People often get confused when discussing 3G and WiMax because if you were pointing to the tower that provides the connection in your neighbourhood, you’d often be pointing to the same one (for both 3G and WiMax). In Canada, the WiMax network is provided by Rogers, even if you don’t subscribe to Rogers. So the Rogers towers are where to look for your WiMax signal.
