One thing we say around the zoo is you can’t be a bunny hugger. Working with zoo animals is a lot different than being with a dog or a cat. They are still wild and there are barriers between you. You have to respect the animals that you’re taking care of first. A bond with the animals may come later. When you worked in the commissary, what kind of concoctions did you create for the animals? The reptiles eat a lot of rodents, and the birds eat whole carcass meat. Other animals would eat mealworms and crickets, and a lot of fruits and vegetables. Sometimes we’ll give trail mix to the primates. If an animal needs a nutritional supplement, we may give it to them in baby food or in a mustard sandwich.
