How long can credit card companies chase debts for,is there a time limit?

A long time..But it can only be on your credit report for a limited time (Usually 7 years) after you have contact with them, and that’s all that really matters. Eventually they will sell the debt to another company that will hound you. I got a letter from a company that bought a bad debt from a credit card I had in college about a year ago. I am 34 now, so that was 16 years ago. When you get those letters, send them a letter back CERTIFIED RETURN RECEIPT immediately saying that you don’t believe that the debt is you in the first line, then cut and paste in a nasty Cease and Desist letter: http://www.ihatedebt.com/DealingWithYour… as the rest of it. That will tie their hands unless they decide to sue you. If it is on your credit report already, send them a cease and desist. Wait untill you have the return receipt, then contest it on you
