How long did it take to build the Great Pyramid?
It was estimated to be completed in about 12 years indicating that if workers worked year round, they would have set one block every two and a half minutes. However, there is evidence that workers did not work year round. Workers were local people living in or near the construction area, and were primarily farmers who worked the site during flood season when they were unable to attend to their farms. This fact would indicate that if the workers worked year round, they could have finished the Great Pyramid in less time, perhaps only a few years. Also, archaeological evidence suggests that the workers of the Great Pyramid were not slaves, but paid workers indicated by their finds in the Giza village of bakeries, banks, breweries and Inns. Egyptologists were able to calculate the numbers of people living in the area, and concluded that a little more than 30,000 workers were employed in the direct or indirect construction of the Great Pyramid.
