You can't go by a strict time on this, because issues like the temperature and the thickness of the chicken thighs makes a huge difference. But, you want to cook them until the center is no longer pink. First, heat up the large sauce pan (about a 3 quart or more) on medium-high. Now add either water or chicken broth and wait for the water to heat up. Don't fill with water over 1/3 full. Now carefully put the chicken breasts in the warmed pan and cover with a lid. Now after about 5 minutes, turn the chicken breasts over, with a knife, cut a notch in the thickest part of the chicken. When the thickest part is white, not pink, then it is finished. I recommend cooking the chicken with broth or bullion, it gives a nicer flavor than plain water. more
