The competition is tough; lots of people are trying to break in. This doesn't mean you can't get a start, but you'll need all the advantages you can put on your resume. The Batchelor of Arts in Interior Design will be a good thing to top the list of qualifications. At least your resume won't get dumped aside for lack of it and the personnel officer will keep reading. Make sense? Good luck.
