How long does it take a broken pinky finger to recover on its own?
Never had it myself, but I work for orthopedic surgeons and we deal with this type of thing regularly. So: Was your finger immobilized at all? Taped to the ring finger, put in a buddy splint? It should be. You should be keeping it elevated whenever possible, and using ice, and it should be taped to the other finger to keep the bone in one position long enough to heal. If you are constantly bending, moving, flexing, using the finger, the bones will be in motion against each other and will not be able to heal – and the fracture could become displaced (“dislocated”), and will then require surgery, or at least manual alignment (being set). Make your own buddy-splint for now, first-aid tape and a wide “popsicle stick” (the width of the tongue depressors in the doctors’ offices). Position the stick under your finger so that it reaches from about mid-palm to the tip of your pinky finger; cut it off at that length. Use the first-aid tape to secure the pinky finger to both the stick AND the rin
