plant tomato seeds bout 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in your area, plant them in potting soil in small containers, 3 or 4 seed each ,cover lightly and tamp the soil lightly to make good contact, and water lightly , dont let the soil dry out, but dont over water either — keep them in a warm place , on top of the frige is a good place to keep them, if you re planting less than 8 or 10, best to buy plants already started, set them out after danger of frost has passed

I have started my tomatoes indoors. First, buy seed from a reliable company…not some grocery store bargain. I buy from Johnny’s seeds. Second, I put the seeds in sterile soil starting medium. Third, I put them on a heat strip to give the plants bottom heat. The plants germinated in three days. If you dont want to buy a heat strip, just put the pots or cubes somewhere warm in the house. The tops of refrigerators used to be warm. The bottom heat really gives seeds a jump start. They will not need light until they germinate. If all you do is put the seeds in dirt, they probably will germinate in about 10 days.

That depends on where you live and how soon you can plant them outdoors. In northern Ontario I start mine in April and just keep transplanting them into larger pots until I can plant them outdoors (usually the beginning of June). Be sure that the soil has warmed up and that all danger of frost has past. If you do happen to get a late frost after planting out just cover them up with an old bed sheet. Don’t forget to place a tomato cage around it at time of planting. You should get some nice produce within 3 months of seeding provided you give it lots of water and full sun! Good Luck to you!
