How long does it take for a betta to blow a bubble nest?
Jess is wrong. A bubble nest has nothing to do with a Betta’s emotional state. A Betta blows a nest out of instinct. It is NOT an indication of him being happy or depressed, or healthy/ill whatever. Sometimes even Bettas kept in cold cups will start blowing bubbles. It doesn’t mean they are happy. They are driven by their instinct only. My neighbor has a Betta who’s 7, almost 8 years old, and has NEVER blown a bubble nest in his entire life. Others start making nests as young as 3 months in age. You shouldn’t expect a bubble nest. There are some tricks to induce them to make bubble nests, but then again you are playing with their instinct to make sure this happens. For example, lowering a mirror in front of a Betta will make him think there’s a rival in his territory. He MIGHT blow a bubble nest to say “this area has been taken”. You should NOT show him the mirror for more than 5 minutes though. Personally, I couldn’t care less if my Betta blew bubbles or not. As long as he’s happy and
