How long does it take for a body to decompose inside a room with central air conditioning?
Decomposition is a *process* and takes place starting at about 24 hours after death. Initially, the abdominal wall will turn a turquoise green color. 24 hours after that the soft tissues will be bloated and have what is known as “marbling”, where the dark coloration follows the vessels. Another day after that the skin, particularly of the face and neck will darken and start to slough off. The body will start losing fluids to the surrounding environment. Another week and the fingers and toes and possibly facial features will be mummified. Another couple of weeks before the entire body will effectively be mummified, on the outer aspects. Another six months before mummification would be more or less complete.
