How long does it take for a platy to have fry after getting pregnant?
Sorry to all of you, but you are wrong. A pregnant platy will be pregnant for 4-6 weeks. She will give birth about 3 times, every 4-6 weeks. They don’t lay eggs, as they are live bearers, the babies grow in eggs inside her body. She gives birth just after they’ve hatched inside her. It takes up to 8 hours for her to give birth. You get approximately 15 baby’s each time. If you don’t have a breeding tank, put the baby’s in a breeding box on the side of your tank. If you see fry swimming around the tank, scoop them up gently and put them in the breeding box. Rake them bottom of your tank with your net, as it is the platys natural instinct to bury into the gravel when first born. Release them into the main tank when they’re to big to fit in their parents mouths. Or the biggest fish in the tanks mouth.
