To get from NYC to Lakeside figure on about 5 hours, obviously less time from the City’s northern suburbs. From Albany the drive is about 2.5 hours. Burlington, Vermont is an hour to an hour and a half, by ferry from Essex to Charlotte or by bridge. Ferries run every half hour in the summer and they are a great way to see the lake. Driving time to Essex is about 20 minutes. If you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, take the drive up I-87 to Montreal. It’ll take the better part of 2 hours to get to a different world. Finally, if you want to go up into the mountains, Elizabethtown is your jumping off place. From there you can be in Lake Placid in a little more than half an hour.
