How long does it take to learn how to surf?
It depends on the individual. Some students are up on their first wave, most get up during their first lesson, and some take longer. Remember, surfing is not just being able to stand up and ride a wave, it is being able to safely and responsibly handle yourself in the ocean, and know the rules and etiquette of the lineup. This is a continual process that only comes from a lot of time in the ocean.
It all depends on you. If your a good athlete with determination and is not easily discouraged, it could take just a few hours to get the hang of it. Of course it will take many years to perfect, you could be riding waves standing up in just a few waves. Ive been surfing for 12 years, since i was 4, and i picked it up pretty quickly. Just keep in mind, surfing is a difficult sport to learn and takes time, but when mastered, its incredibly fun. Dont get discouraged. Laugh at your falls instead of getting frustrated.
