How long does it usually take to heal?
That depends. Each area of the body has its own unique healing period and process. Oral or facial piercings tend to heal fastest, while others tend to heal a bit slower. Also, every individual body heals and reacts to piercings in an individualized manner. So, your friend may have tackled an entire pizza a few days after getting a tongue piercing (which is NOT recommended) while you, on the other hand, may still be spoon feeding yourself ice cream and soup after waiting the same amount of time. A general guideline for approximate healing times is about 1-2 months. Cartilage takes longer to heal because of the stiffness of the area and the tendency to sleep on it at night. Some piercings can take 6 months to 1 year to heal, but that’s usually do to improper care. Any piercing that’s in a part of the body that moves, flexes or is used a lot (like cheeks, webs, etc.) is going to take longer to heal, and some don’t.
