How long has PostgreSQL been around?
PostgreSQL has a long history of continual development. It began as Ingres at the University of California at Berkeley, where it was developed from 1977 to 1985. Ingres became a proprietary database product, while Postgres was spun off to continue development under the open source model. Since then, Postgres was renamed PostgreSQL and development has continued at an impressive pace.
