How long should my face stay numb after removal of my wisdom teeth?
2 things: One: Sometimes a surgeon will give a patient an extra injection of a long-lasting local anesthesia (Novocaine type) to help them stay comfortable until they can get prescriptions filled, get home, etc. Two: Because of the anatomy of the nerve that goes to the lower teeth, it is not uncommon for folks to remain numb for some time. This is called parathesia and is usually related to the inferior alveolar nerve. Unfortunately, there is no real way to predict if or when the feeling will come back. In most cases it does come back, but it make take several more weeks or longer. Since you are concerned, call your dentist/oral surgeon.
