How long should one breastfeed and why?
Any amount of breastmilk is better than none at all. However, most health organizations recommend a MINIMUM breastmilk until 6 months, with extended nursing up to age two and beyond. I personally think that toddlers hugely reap the benefits of breastmilk, both nutritionally and emotionally. My children have been breastfed through the Norwalk virus and many many severe cold and flu seasons here in Canada, and have never gotten sick. My third boy and all his peers had RSV, and mine was the only one who didn’t end up in the hospital. Your baby/toddler will benefit from breastfeeding for as long as you nurse her!
