How long will it take to rip an Audio CD?
There are many factors that determine the CD ripping speed. • If your CD-ROM drive does NOT support Digital Audio Extraction, i.e. ripping, the audio can only be read at a 1X speed. That means the time to rip a song will take as long as playing back the entire song. • If the CDROM drive supports digital audio extraction and is say, a 12X read speed, a song can be extracted at a speed of between 3x to 10x, depending on the system configuration and the make of the CD ROM drive. After the audio is extracted, it needs to be encoded and this rate will vary according to your processor speed and memory available. • On the average, a 450MHz PC is able to rip and encode 1 CD album in about 10 minutes.
