Video Transcript How Many Chromosomes Does Each Human Cell Have? Did you know that in every little tiny cell in your body you have forty six of these. Hi, I’m Janice Creneti and I’m here to talk about how many cell, how many chromosomes are in an average human cell. Well, first of all what exactly is a chromosome? Well, a chromosome is a very long strand of DNA. DNA is a material that carriers your genetic information. It determines what your hair color is, your eye color, how tall you are in some cases, and that very long strand actually curls up on itself and creates something that’s called a chromosome. Two DNA strands hooked together. It actually does sort of look like an X. Well, in the normal human body cell (and that’s a body cell not a sex cell, we’ll talk more about that in a second) you actually have forty-six chromosomes and they’re paired up twenty-three pairs, kind of like a pair of shoes.
