How many days to spend in Ayutthaya?
I live in Bangkok currently and have seen the devastation that the floods have wrought not only on the nation’s capital, but also on Thailand itself. Ayutthaya was one of the worst hit places when the floods arrived as drainage was slow because it is just north of Bangkok, and much of Thailand’s wealth is amassed in Bangkok itself. If you are visiting Thailand for a while I would suggest to stop in Ayutthaya, just to see a portrait of sheer endurance the Thais exuded in response to the floods, but the ruins have taken quite a beating so it is probably not worth a long trip, 2 days maybe. If you are in Thailand for more than a few days, I would suggest checking out Bangkok. There is the beautiful Grand Palace, Lumpini Park teeming with loose monitor lizards, Kaosan Road which offers killer massages and any tourist/backpacker item you could hope for. There is also Chatuchak market which is one of the largest outdoor markets in the world and easy to get to on the sky train. No signs of fl
