The New York Police Department K-9 Unit is comprised of 33 dogs, including 30 German Shepherds and 3 Bloodhounds. The NYPD K-9 Unit has been tirelessly working to help recover victims at the site of the World Trade Center since the first day of the tragedy September 11. Because of their brave and untiring efforts, the unit has recently been awarded the first ProHeart Hero Award from Fort Dodge Animal Health.
