How many jobs in Canada depend on the auto industry?
Each direct auto manufacturing job supports the creation of several “spin-off” jobs in other industries. Some spin-off jobs are in industries that supply the auto industry (steel, plastic, utilities, transportation, business services). Others are in industries that depend on the consumer spending of those who work in auto and related industries. Economists estimate that each job in a major auto company (vehicle assemblers) creates 7.5 jobs in total somewhere in the economy.
