Traditionally in the UK a billion was a million million, whereas an American billion was a thousand million. IE the UK billion was 1000 times more. However, this distinction is now obsolete, and whenever you hear people talking about billions they mean the “American” type. EG: 1,000,000 = million 1,000,000,000 = billion 1,000,000,000,000 = trillion Etc.
