How Many Motors Can Operate on a Single-Phase Converter?

Phase converters are ideal for running many different machines in a single shop. Rotary-phase converters can operate many motors simultaneously provided the loads dont need to start together. The startup of too many machines at one time drains the power supply and could result in damage to your equipment. With the rotary-phase converter, it has two ratings, the maximum starting horsepower and the maximum running horsepower. Any motor that fits within these ratings will operate safely and successfully. When starting a motor, the high in-rush current normally is five to ten times the normal running current. Most applications require you to size the HP of the rotary converter 100 per cent larger or more than the horsepower of the largest motor or combination of motors started at the same time. If the first motor started is not running a heavy load, it will generate additional three-phase power back into the circuit. A maximum of up to three times the HP rating of the rotary converter can
