One person is dead and another in custody after a shooting and standoff at a home in Grand Oaks, Miss., on Friday. Local law enforcement sources told FOX affiliate WREG that a man released from a mental health institution earlier in the day shot his father and was reportedly held other people hostage. The home is believed to be owned by Billy Autry, the owner of a local limousine company and a one-time suspect in logal drug trade, residents tell FOX News. The suspected gunman is believed to be his adult son. The streets in the surrounding area were blocked. Residents were told to remain off the streets, witnesses and residents tell FOX News. Authorities were at the scene of a standoff in an affluent Oxford neighborhood, where one person was killed. Oxford, Mississippi Mayor George Patterson says it started around 1:30 p.m., at a home in the Grand Oaks subdivision, Friday, September 25, 2009. Patterson described the situation as a “mentally deranged suspect” who started a standoff with police. Officers say they received a call about a man waving a gun in the neighborhood. When police arrived at the house, authorities say he went inside with his father, sister and brother. Police say the suspect’s sister was able to escape from the home and the father was in the attic maintaining contact with police using his cell phone. At some point, the brother was shot and killed, according to authorities. Police say SWAT surrounded the house and was able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.
