How many People around the World participate in Dance Sport?
RH/WJB: Dancing as Sport has many facets: In Competition Sport Dancing there are involved around 300 000 couples world-wide. The number of couples of all age classes – dancing according to dance sport rules with regular training but not competing is by far very much larger and may be estimated to about 1 Million couples. Named to the International Federation are only those couples which are registered for competitions. The reasons why spreading of Dance Sport with the Islamic countries is hindered are well known and reasonable. CD: Lots of People do Ballroom Dancing and Latin Dancing – when does it become Dance Sport i.e. official Competitions? RH/WJB: Basically it must be said, that the terminology Ballroom Dancing” is antiquated. It is of British origin and was created at times where tournament dancing was exceptionally carried out in ballrooms”. The known British care for traditions is the reason that this term is still used nowadays but only for the discipline of the standard dance
