An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale has killed two people in California. The quake struck in the winelands area stretching from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Two women were killed in the town of Paso Robles, around 300km north of Los Angeles, when a 19th century clock tower fell on them. More than 80 buildings were damaged by the quake and around 40,000 people were left without electricity when the quake struck around 11.15am local time.
