How many points do newcastle united need to be mathematically safe in the premiership?
45/46(although possible for Newcastle to get relegated on 45 points they would have to loose heavily to the likes of Birmingham and Blackpool would have to beat Man U by more that 5 goals, ect) points would see Newcastle completely safe, although they are practically safe already as they have superior goal difference to many teams in the bottom half of the table. The highest number of points a team in 18th could get is 44/45 (if it came down to goal difference) , although the maximum points teams currently in the bottom three could get is 48-50 this would mean they finish higher up in the table and other teams would have to loose so a resulting points total would see the maximum points for a relegated team to get this season being 45(technically 44 due to GD) points.
