How many puppies can a chihuahua have?
Of course it all depends…. the average chihuahua litter has 3-6 puppies in it. The most I have ever seen is 11. There can be as few as one. There is no good way to predict. First time mothers tend to have smaller litters. Older mothers tend to have smaller litters. The number of puppies is controlled by how many eggs the mother produces, which tends to be hereditary. So the number of puppies in the litter she came from will give you a ballpark. The smaller the mother is, the fewer you should hope she has, because she only has so much space and nourishment to offer. A big litter from a small mother can mean that some of the puppies are born too small to survive. Then again, a small mother with a small litter can mean puppies too big for her to pass.
