Most PCMs are fitted with off the shelf flash memory chips. The flash memory manufacturers provide data sheets for each type of flash memory, which explain that the flash chips are good for about 10000 write cycles. We think it is unlikely that you would ever “wear out” the flash chip. The PCM uses sophisticated algorithms to check the flash memory every time the engine is started. If a problem does occur with your flash memory the PCM will report a trouble code immediately.
