How may residential alley collection service be effected?
Study findings on solid waste collection within alleys included the following: the current alley collection operation increases exposure to risk, zero property line setbacks create an unsafe environment, and collection is time consuming and inefficient when compared with curbside collection. As a result and in summary, the approach City staff intends on taking in its evaluation of methods for the collection of solid waste serviced within alleys is: 1. The City shall conduct individual safety inspections and evaluations of each alley presently serviced by the Citys Solid Waste Division. 2. The City will attempt to eliminate hazardous and close quarter situations where feasible. 3. Those alleys considered by the City to allow the safe passage and collection of solid waste using the current rear loading trucks will be recommended for conversion to semi-automated collection.
