How much credibility do you give to the show Mythbusters?”
I actually saw the Mythbusters at a seminar at UC Berkeley last week, and they explained some of the issues that people have with the show. Because it’s a show, it’s designed to be entertainment, and not a rigorous scientific experiment. They try to produce an entertaining, educational show, but they can’t be perfectly scientific. Adam and Jamie told us that they are often given a very short period of time in which to perform their experiments, and due to the TV production schedule, they MUST get the entire project built, tested, and filmed within that time frame, so they don’t have the luxury of doing a lot of repeats and complex testing. They also tend to do experiments with exploding cars, or other destructive results, so they can’t get a hold of 10 cars and blow them all up in different ways to show us all the different possible outcomes. And when you think about it in terms of TV, real science is pretty boring. Real science is about testing and re-testing. It’s about spending a lo
