How much do real estate appraisers get paid?
I have seen residential appraisal fees range in the neighborhood of $300-$500 each. There is a lot of work involved in preparing an accurate appraisal, so while they can make a good living I don’t think they are getting filthy rich. They certainly don’t net this much as they have overhead just like any other businessperson. With the physical inspections and then all the research and paperwork back at the office, I wouldn’t think a single appraiser could knock out more than two or three a day at the most. And the old days of being able to count on lenders sending all or most of their work your way are over, as they move to rotation systems and other methods to alleviate the appraisal fraud that caused a lot of the housing market problems we see today. And the slowdown has caused the supply/demand scale to tip the wrong way; fewer home sales to many appraisers wanting the work.
