How much do some German Shepherds weigh?
Answer A couple of variations of German Shepherds are the long haired ones, and the silver, the ones that are all gray and white. The breed standards call for the males to be 24 to 26” high at the shoulder, and the females slightly smaller. The standard calls for 77-85 pounds. Unlike many other breeds, they do not tend to over eat and shorten their life. Of course many are outside those standards. Like any puppies, they alternate being hyperactive and frequent naps. Puppies may be 6” high or less when they first are able to stand up. They are all born solid black, a sooty, dull black. Most quickly develop some color, continuing their first year. I know Shepherds best as dog guides. Although Labs are more common there now, still many people depend on them. They are much less common in other service dog work. They are frequently used in security work and as guard dogs. Somewhere somebody may be using them to herd sheep, their original job. There should be more on them at www.akc.org.
