To say a little or a lot is a blanket statement. It all depends on the situation. On the average though, between an absent father, and an abusive father, I would imagine that you’d be better off with the absent father. My nephew’s (real) father was a punk kid who stole cars, smoked weed, and drank. His mother (my sister) told him she was pregnant, and at first he seemed indifferent, but stuck with her. Then she made a demand that he stop stealing cars (notice, nothing was said about the drinking and weed), and he said he wasn’t and left. We were a close family, and we helped take care of him until he was 5. (He even called me dad for a while, we used to joke about our “mormon” family *no offense to mormons) He seemed fine to me. We had to move for a job. And his mom moved in with this guy (who’s older than our mother), and he wants nothing to do with the boy.
