Architects Im sure are like anyone else, meaning there is always competition. But generally prices are based on a price per square foot. Its not unusual to see $5 per square foot. Another thing to consider, depending on your location (also stated you are building on a hillside) you could possible need to hire a structural engineer as well as an architect.
