How much does printing cost?
SOM Students: • Simplex (Single-sided) Black & White Laser prints: $0.06 ea. • Duplex (double-sided) Black & White Laser prints: $0.12 ea. SOM Students get a credit of 750 free prints ($45) at the beginning of each semester. Students need to add money to their accounts when they use all of their free prints. All others: • Simplex (Single-sided) Black & White Laser prints: $0.10 ea. • Duplex (double-sided) Black & White Laser prints: $0.20 ea.
The printing cost varies according to the purpose of it. The cost for printing a few pages may be a general cost. But, if the amount of pages to be printed is in bulk, then the cost can decrease to some extent. The printing cost matters a lot for businesses where there is a lot of paper work, like telecom or universities. They spend a lot part of their expenses in printing purposes. Therefore, it is necessary for them to utilize their finances effectively, so that not much is utilized for this purpose. This can easily be achieved by using print management services, which not only prove cost effective, but also help them work efficiently.
The U/C Library or LRC printing network is $.10 per page. The FAU printing network is $.05 per page. The printers do not accept cash or coins. BC students can add money to their student ID card if the card has two magnetic stripes on the back. A BC card without the two stripes can be replaced for free at the Student Activities Office. FAU patrons can add money to their Owl card in Room 103 for printing. FAU students can also send their printing job to the FAU computer lab in the LA Building-Room 308. Anyone can purchase a guest card at the machines in Reference or LRC. Cards are $1.00, which includes $.50 for the card and five prints. Funds can be added to any BC or guest card at the add value machine in $1 or $5 amounts up to $20. Please bring the correct amount of $1 or $5 bills. The Library does not provide change.
Initial hardware costs are often mistakenly perceived as the bulk of the printing investment, where the majority of printing costs actually result from the heavy use of consumables. Consumables are your paper and toner, which vary directly with the amount of printer usage. Toner cartridges are the most costly consumable item at an average cost of $0.05 to $0.08 for each black and white page, and $0.12 to $0.15 for a page with color. Pages with solid color graphics can cost $0.50 to $0.60 per page. The average cost for paper is $0.01 to $0.02 per page, but premium paper can cost up to $0.06 to $0.08 per page. One of the most costly mistakes made in an attempt to lower printing costs is purchasing low-grade or recycled paper which has serious consequences. This paper is not refined which wears down expensive moving parts and toner cartridges.
