How much has it cost CA-7 in dollars to have the website designed and hosted?
The cash expense to CA-7 has been zero. However, there are unavoidable monetary costs. I paid for the software to create the website (Microsoft FrontPage 2000), graphics software (Adobe Photoshop Elements), 5 books on FrontPage 2000, 4 books on designing websites, the scanner (HP Scanjet 3300C subsequently upgraded to an Epson Perfection 2400 Photo), the computer (Dell Dimension 4100 running on a 1 GHz Pentium III) and the Internet Service Provider (ISP) for access to the web (America Online) out of my own pocket. The site is hosted at no cost by Tripod, a free website hosting service. (See below for a discussion on the advisability of using a free service.) Our members still take photos with film cameras. Whoever took a photo that winds up on the website paid for the film and the developing.
