How much importance was given to Pune roads in the infrastructure development of the city?
Suresh Kalmadi : Good roads for Pune has always been top most on my agenda for the city. It is convenient to have all roads complete with service lines on one side and ducts underneath for storm water. If this is done, the need to dig roads during monsoons will not arise. We strive for additional budgetary allocations for these roads. We also stressed on the concretization of the major roads. We are equally concerned about potholes, however, unfortunately we were not able to successfully carry out repairs and get rid of the problem. We succeeded in getting a sanction of Rs.142 cores in February 2007 and the repairs, conservation, widening, tar overlay etc., of many roads were successfully completed. The State Government in its recent meeting at Nagpur has agreed to give Rs.500 crores for this purpose which is a big relief.
