The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth received a $471,000 grant for a service-learning initiative it will lead with the four other UMass campuses, officials announced Thursday. UMass Dartmouth plans to extend statewide a program used in Fall River and New Bedford middle schools, with a goal of engaging 1,500 students with 20 community service organizations as part of college courses. The School of Education, Public Policy and Civic Engagement led the grant-writing process and will administer the inititiative.
