How much maple syrup does a maple tree make?
A productive maple tree will yield 15 to 40 gallons (57 to 152 liters) of sap in a season. Depending on the sugar content of the sap, 30 to 50 gallons (115 to 190 liters) of sap will yield 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of maple syrup. If 1 gallon of syrup is boiled further so that most of the water evaporates, it will yield about 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) of maple sugar. Vermont and New York are the largest producers of maple syrup in the United States. The Canadian province of Quebec leads the world in maple syrup production, making more than 2 million gallons (7.6 million liters) of syrup yearly.
