How much money should you have left over each month after paying bills?

I dont think that is enough left over each month after your bills. Usually you don’t want your house costing more then 1/4 of your take home pay. I would look for a cheaper apartment or think about getting a 2 bedroom with a roommate as that makes a big difference on bills. I went and got my own place with about the same left over each month as you and now i’m in major debt and no I didnt buy alot of things that where not needed.

$300 should be good, if you have added grocerys and gas for your car in with your mandatory bills. Sometimes when I got done paying bills I had enough just left over for gas and food. You want to make sure that you can put at least $25 to $50 in savings every check so if something like an emergency happens you will have extra money. Trust me you don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck.

I pay about $700 a month on my mortgage and I make about $3000 after taxes a month… I tend to get by with a comfortable lifestyle once I have paid off my bills… I probably spend about 50 pct of what I do on my mortgage on my bills, so about $350 and then theres Food and the Car (Insurance and Gas) to pay for…

I did that, and I went into some major debt. It depeneds on what you spend your money on. I still live paycheck to paycheck and am thinking about bankruptcy. I would look for some less expensive apartments.

I’d say that that’s too much. Generally speaking, your rent should be about a fourth of your take home pay. However, ultimately everything depends on how much money you need to maintain your lifestyle without going into debt.
