It really depends how long it takes to do on your model of car, which is mainly a matter of whether anything else needs to be taken off to get at it, at least according to the manual. I remember that on a car I had some years ago the workshop manual said that the exhaust manifold had to be removed before the alternator could be removed. However, I found that with the right sequence of twists and turns I could just squeeze it out without removing the manifold, saving a lot of time. Which was good, because I had to do the removal in the car park of the factors, and then put the exchange alternator in while I was there, because obviously the car was undriveable without it. It only took me about 30 mins to remove, and similar to replace. However, later that day I realised the exchange alternator wasn’t working at all, so I had to go back the next day to exchange it. Then the second replacement turned out to be overcharging – the voltage limiter was faulty – so I had to go back and exchange

Replacement of the alternator is simple takes a whole10 minutes 15 if your slow most shops charge between 40-75 per hour depends on the shop its rate and whether they have a one hour min rate keep in mind that all cars come with a book from the manufactures that determine what time it takes to do a particular repair so if the book says 30 minutes for the step by step then you would get charged for 30 min plus parts also all shop mark the prices up to 200% from wholesale and also it depends on the year so if it a new car your going to pay the max price and there is only a few types of alternators example my car is a 92 the alternator cost is 125 but if you cross reference the part number to a car lets say a 1970 that it fits that alternator the same part as your would cost about 40 so your alternator is not special it fits a lot of cars the year is what sets the price so all you have to do is goto an auto parts web page and look up the number then Google what vehicle years it fits and y
